Introduction / History

The Alehemir people live in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan State in Sudan. They are part of the broader Nuba peoples, a collection of smaller ethnic groups whose identities are closely tied to specific regions and long-established rural traditions. Very little detailed historical information is available about the Alehemir themselves, which is typical for smaller, localized groups in this area. Their identity is rooted in their land, with generations shaped by agriculture, clan relationships, and relative geographic isolation.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Alehemir are primarily rural farmers. They grow staple crops such as sorghum and corn and raise cattle, sheep, and goats, which provide both food and economic support. Livestock also holds social importance within the community.

Daily life follows the rhythms of agriculture in a demanding environment, requiring cooperation among families and careful use of limited resources. Cultural life includes traditional dancing and wrestling, which serve as important expressions of identity and community. Like many groups in the Nuba Mountains, their lifestyle is simple and closely tied to the land, with limited infrastructure shaping everyday life.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Alehemir people are Sunni Muslims. Islam shapes their understanding of God, moral conduct, and community life. There is no meaningful known Christian presence among them, and their exposure to the gospel is extremely limited.

What Are Their Needs?

The Alehemir face significant practical challenges. Access to clean water is limited, often relying on boreholes. There are no established schools or healthcare facilities within their immediate community, contributing to ongoing hardship and restricting opportunities for development.

They have little to no access to Scripture or consistent Christian witness. Their small size and isolation mean they are often overlooked, yet these same factors make focused, long-term engagement possible for those willing to serve faithfully.

Prayer Items

Pray that the Alehemir people would hear and understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and respond in faith.
Ask God to raise up committed workers who will go to the Alehemir and live among them with perseverance and love.
Pray that the Alehemir would be adopted through the People Group Adoption program, leading to sustained prayer and intentional gospel outreach.
Pray that, as individuals come to faith, they would grow in spiritual maturity and disciple others within their community.
